This is a multi-region applicable seed mix (NE, SE, and MW) that is designed with a strong emphasis on species that bloom in late summer - July, August, September, into October. There still are plenty of representative species that bloom in spring and early summer as well, while the design favors late season bloomers. A parade of Lobelias, Obedient Plant, Asters, Non-Aggressive Goldenrods, Ironweed, Tall Boneset, Joe Pyeweed, Partridge Pea, Native Lespedezas (non-invasive), and Rudebeckias flood the late season aesthetic with profuse blooming. The late season blooming species are favored through heavier seeding rates per square foot than the spring/summer species. This mix is especially attractive to migrating and overwintering butterflies and moths, Hummingbirds, along with late-season active native bees. This mix also supports Bumble Bee gynes, which are newly born Bumble Bee Queens that leave the hive in late-summer and on a mission to gather enough pollen and nectar to overwinter and become next year’s Bumblebee colony starters.
